Types of Swim Meets

Mini Meet

Mini meets are most swimmers' first introduction to racing. These are held at an RSC facility. These meets are not sanctioned, meaning they don't go into the USA Swimming database. These meets features shorter events, minimal timing equipment and a more relaxed pace for our new racers.

Block Party

Block party meets are in-house meets that RSC runs frequently for our 14&U swimmers. These meets require minimal volunteers, are short in duration, and allow swimmers and parents alike to get a snapshot of what meets look like. Times achieved cannot qualify for national meets.

In-Season Meets

These meets could be hosted by RSC or another team. These meets typically span 1-2+ days, involve multiple other teams and can have a time standard qualification requirement.

Championship Meets

Championship meets occur at the end of the season and are required for those that qualify. Swimmers should compete in the highest level meet they qualify for. For Minnesota meets, we have MRC's and State and sometimes a Bronze Championship. Qualification times are evaluated annually and published in October.

National Meets

National meets are meets that are set by USAS Swimming or another national organization like NCSA. These meets use different qualifications set by those organizations

Bronze Championship

The Bronze Championship meet is the first in the Minnesota Championship meet series. Swimmers must achieve a "Bronze" time in any event based on their age at the time of the Bronze meet.

MN Regional Championship (MRC)

The MRC meet is our highest attended championship meet. To qualify, swimmers must achieve a MN silver minimum and gold maximum standard. This meet is where many swimmers qualify for the state meet.

Minnesota State Meet

For the Minnesota state meet, swimmers can qualify in many ways. Swimmers can achieve a MN Champ time, win an individual event at MRC or make an RSC Relay. Relays are announced after MRC.

Single-Age State

The single-age state meet is for 14&U swimmers and is contested in December. This meet allows swimmers an additional state meet opportunity before they may "age-up" to the next age bracket and allows for single-age competition.

Team MN Meets

Team Minnesota meets are meets where qualified swimmers will compete as Team Minnesota vs. RSC while maintaining their club status. These meets include All-Stars in January, a small, selected group of about 6 swimmers per age bracket, and Zones in late July/Early August where swimmers must achieve a national AAA time.

Sectionals

This is the first in the USA Swimming Championship meet series. This meet has many sites nationally and is contested in our region. This meet has a March and July meet and time standards are similar to our Senior State cuts.

Futures

Futures is the second meet in the USA Swimming Championship series. This meet is contested regionally in July. This meet has faster time standards than Sectionals. Individual qualifiers make the RSC National Team.

Juniors

The Juniors meet is the third meet in the Championship series. The Winter Juniors meet is split into two meets in December and one meet in late July/Early August. The summer cuts are faster than the winter cuts.

Nationals

National is the 4th meet in the Championship series. This meet is held in the summer anywhere from June-August depending on the world schedule. This meet is typically used as a qualifier for USA International Meet teams.

Olympic Trials

Olympic Trials is held every 4 years in June. This is the highest level qualifying meet in USA Swimming. This meet is used to select the US Olympic Team.
